Sodium alginate is the sodium salt of alginic acid. Its color ranges from white to yellowish-brown. Thermo irreversible rigid and brittle gel in the presence of calcium. The higher the concentration of alginate and calcium, the harder the gel produced.

Usage:  

It is used for waterproofing and fireproofing fabrics, a thickener for reactive dyes in textile screen-printing, in the food industry as a thickening agent for drinks, ice cream and cosmetics, and as a gelling agent for jellies. Alginate is also used as an ingredient in various pharmaceutical preparations.
